Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 16th January 2016 R. L. Gilmour Esq. Cup, 500yards Saturday threw up a rare set of shooting conditions with a brisk east-south easterly breeze whistling through the trees on the left of the range creating all sorts of eddies and variations in strength. The mirage played a big part in the readability of the conditions. The first stage did not produce one standout score but Steve Williams set a reasonable challenge with a 48.05. Nick Cock, back from serious back surgery, started with three inner fours but then finished with six centre bull’s eyes for a 47.06.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 9th January 2016 R. L. Gilmour Esq. Cup, 300yards Saturday’s weather presented shooters with a golden opportunity to cement a top 300 yard score in their quest for Championship points. However as soon as the directional flags were deployed a quirky breeze and tricky mirage sprang to life. Even thus the conditions still seemed quite benign, but appearances were deceptive. Steve Williams and John Coghill both shot 48’s and both were lured into a 5 o’clock sinkhole which gobbled up two points apiece. Gordon Shepherd paid the penalty of a large group dropping two points whilst Darren Crimston put in a steady shoot in one of his rare appearances.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 2nd January 2016 Norman Rutherford Memorial Trophy, 800yards The return of some weather normality was the talking point at Saturdays shoot for the Norman Rutherford Memorial Trophy. This was emphasized by the number of centre bull’s eyes reappearing on scorecards which have seen very few in recent weeks. Graeme Bright set the standard with a well compiled 49.06 and Gordon Shepherd followed up with a 48.05, Shepherd getting all of his in a six centre burst albeit using every millimeter of the centerline. Dennis Lavelle, 47.03 and John Coghill, 46.03 also prospered but not to the same degree as the A grade pair as all appreciated the milder conditions.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 19th December 2015 T W Willman Trophy, 900yards Saturday again saw a repeat of the wind/miragephenomena which has been dogging shooters at the Bathurst Rifle Range over the past several weeks. However a further obstacle was thrown at competitors with the day hosting the long 900 yard range. The biggest problem for shooters was the oppressive heat which sapped both strength and energy almost to the point of exhaustion. Except for Gordon Shepherd who had an extraordinary turnaround, most scores deteriorated as the day wore on. Shepherd turned a 43.01 first stage into a day topping 48.05 second stage snatching the Cock of the Walk from a group of amazed competitors.
