Bathurst Rifle Club Inc. 29th April 2017, L Williams Cup, 500yards

The cool breeze which sprang up just in time for the afternoon shoot could not be blamed for the moderate score cards. Rather forgetfulness and inattention accounted for some average results. Graeme Bright got up from the mound after his first stage with his back sight swinging in the breeze and Steve Williams changed ammunition half way through, going from a first stage possible to a rough 47.04.

There were some good stages with Grahame Willis consolidating his F class Championship lead with a 115.7 and Nick Cock also boosting his chances of his first Bathurst Rifle Club Championship with a Cock of the Walk winning 98.07.

Overall the first stage was relatively high scoring, the lowest scores being Bright’s 46.03 (care of his wobbly sight) and Dennis Lavelle’s 46.03. Cock had a miss on his second sighter but brushed that away with a double centre start for 48.03 as John Coghill 47.05, Ron Gibson 47.04 and Gordon Shepherd 47.02 were closely bunched.

The second stage was similar to the first except for Coghill who dropped the ball with two magpie threes for 43.02. Shepherd jagged an outer two and Gibson lost his points one at a time in their 46’s. Bright went much better with a 49.05 and Lavelle took the B grade COW with a 48.04. Cock overtook Williams COW bid with a 50.04 possible.

The F-class scores were also quite good with Willis adding four points to his Championship total as well as the COW. Ben Wright clung tight to Willis but was two points adrift at the end despite beating Willis’s second stage on count back.

Next week’s 600 yard range will be the final of the L Williams Cup and the last 600 yard range of the Club Championship.
