Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 1st June 2019. 800yds. Secretary’s Trophy.

Saturday saw the first official day of winter and the last round of competition for the Bathurst Rifle Club 2019 shooting year with another magnificent day. Sunshine and only a few clouds about later in the afternoon with a mostly steady south east breeze that only occasionally pushed at about 6-8 k/h. Shooters could have expected a decent score for the day and most were rewarded accordingly.

In TR class Graeme Bright claimed the top spot and CoW for the day after holding a tight group near the centre in a brilliant second stage. Dennis Lavelle finished only one point back and if not for running short of his good rounds may have finished a little closer. Gordon Shepherd seemed to have an off day with some of his shots straying more than wanted to finish five points further away.

In F class Jeff Eppleston returned fresh from a few weeks break from the Bathurst range and with his usual consistency recorded two good stages to gain the CoW having a one point advantage over Graham Willis for the day. Nick Webster finished next best with six points off the lead after a slow start in both stages with Col Howell another point back although lamenting what might have been if he had put all his shots on the right target. Geoff Willis started with a reasonable first stage but finished at the bottom eight points off the lead with shots going high or low and not many in the middle.

The Secretary’s Trophy was won by Dennis Lavelle (200) with runner up Graeme Bright (199 ½).

Next Saturday we will be back to 300 yards for the start of the clubs 2020 shooting calendar and the first round of the FA Wilde Trophy.
