Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 5^th February 2022 Secretary’s Trophy 8-900 yards.

          The Secretary’s Trophy competition over 800 and 900 yards was completed on Saturday with some welcome cloud cover to keep the worst of the heat away. An unusual predominately south easterly breeze gave some steady patches during the afternoon but also provided drops in strength and changes in direction to catch the unwary at times.

          Steve Williams clearly led the Target Rifle shooters dropping just one point in each stage during the afternoon to finish six points ahead of Graeme Bright who had a few unusual wide shots with John Coghill just a few centre bulls away next. Gordon Shepherd was next having lost too many points later in his second stage to finish four points behind and one point ahead of Dennis Lavelle with Ron Gibson and Charlie Bennett who all also lost points later in the afternoon.

          Ben Wright showed he still had what it takes with a great finish to a consistent days shooting to claim top spot from Geoff Willis with a one point advantage. Phil Mahon also scored well to finish next up four points away and two points ahead of Mal Wright and then Graham Willis with both suffering to the difficult conditions a bit later in the day as well. Jeff Eppleston had frustrating trouble getting his shots to group close on the target with Nick Webster taking a while to find the centre at first then later losing points to the conditions.

          Winner of the Secretary’s Trophy is Mal Wright (200) with runner up Phil Mahon (200). Next Saturday will be round one of the F A Wilde Trophy at 300 yards.
