Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 5th August 2023 600 yards Series 1/9

Saturday saw a return to shooting at the Bathurst Rifle Club range after six weeks of delay due to NBN network upgrades. A return to shooting at 600 yards for the ninth round of the first Series in our shooting calendar attracted sixteen+ shooters for what was perhaps the best shooting conditions experienced for some time with just a slight westerly breeze lifting the flags on occasion. This allowed more than half the field to achieve scores to their handicap or better.

Target Rifle shooter Graeme Bright led the way dropping just one point on the day with Steve Williams next ahead of Gordon Shepherd. John Coghill finished a few points away next with Dennis Lavelle retiring after a disappointing first stage result. James Clarke used a borrowed rifle for the day and got away to a great start but an unfortunate mix up in ammunition caused a couple of lost points during his second stage.

F Class shooter Graham Willis managed a good score both stages to lead the F Standard shooters with Col Howell next two points away then Nick Webster and Phil Mahon also separated by two points. Auskir Berryman followed closely ahead of Dave Butler and then Khoby West-Kennett. F Open and FTR class shooters were led by Geoff Willis with Mal Wright two points away and Ben Wright trailing as he tries to get his new equipment sorted.

Next week will be back to 700 yards for the next round in the Series.
