Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 5th September 2020, J Wilde Memorial Trophy 700 yards.

Saturday gave us another great spring day to be outside enjoying the sunshine for the start of the J Wilde Memorial Trophy. The fluctuating strength of the predominately south westerly breeze along with the frequent changes in direction made for a difficult day with the challenging 700 yards target.

Steve Williams led the Target Rifle shooters holding slightly tighter groups and scoring the best individual stage to start the day finishing two points ahead of Graeme Bright who was just off his usual best. Ron Gibson had a slow start with his first stage but made up some ground with a better result in the second stage to finish four points further down and three points ahead of Gordon Shepherd who was shooting way below his average.

The F Class shooters had a much harder day of coping with the wind changes overall although Jeff Eppleston continued his run as CoW over the last four shooting weeks finishing with a two point advantage over Graham Willis for the day with most shooters having unexplained vertical in their groups. Col Howell lost two points more while scoring three super centres to just keep ahead of new club member Auskir Berryman who was also two points behind with one super centre. Phil Mahon managed a cluster of shots in the centre during both stages but the stray wind shots in between held his score back another two points for the afternoon while Geoff Willis experimented with some new projectiles without success and trailed the pack by another two points after managing only two shots in the centre for the day.

The club competed for the Secretaries Trophy with a third stage of shooting at 700 yards on the day. Next Saturday afternoon we will be shooting at 800 yards for round two of the J Wilde Memorial Trophy and the first round of the K Redding Trophy. The 900 yards round of these trophies previously shown on the calendar for the same day will now be held on Saturday 19th September.
