Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 7th March 2020, 300yds. W Cutler Cup

Saturday saw shooters return to the 300 yard range for the start of the W Cutler Cup competition held over three Saturday afternoons from 300, 500 and 600 yards. A mostly overcast day helped make for a good day to be outdoors with just a light south easterly breeze fluctuating during the afternoon.

Graeme Bright used the good conditions to advantage dropping only one point at each stage to take the days honours in Target Rifle class leading Steve Williams by five points. Gordon Shepherd didn’t hold enough shots in the bull’s eye and finished two points further down ahead of John Coghill who was next up another two points away. Dennis Lavelle must have been distracted by his slow start early on and lost five points to the wrong target.

In the F Class division Geoff Willis managed to hold the days lead after an early target setup problem was adjusted to finish just five super centres ahead of Col Howell with Jeff Eppleston another four points back after also being disadvantaged by the target setup problems. Phil Mahon scored only two points less after holding great elevation to his grouping in the first stage and keep three points advantage over Nick Webster. Visiting shooters Auskir Berryman and Glen Taylor scored well after they proved their hunting rifles could hold on the target at the 300 yard range.

The next round of the W Cutler Cup will be contested on Saturday 21st March from 500 yards.

                                                                                                                                                     by Geoff Willis
