Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 7th November 2020, W Cutler Cup 500 yards.

Saturday saw the second round of the W Cutler Cup from 500 yards with a reasonable roll up of shooters also ready to improve their Club Championship scores. The targets were set up in good time and with the wind flags not very active it looked promising for some good scoring but as usually happens the wind was going to be somewhat unpredictable and hard to read. The flags mostly lifted to a westerly breeze sometimes dropping off and swinging to almost lift from the south as the mirage stopped for a short while before coming back from the west.

In Target Rifle class Graeme Bright again gained top spot for the day starting with a possible first stage score to lead the day with Steve Williams next, putting in a great second stage score to finish one point behind. Gordon Shepherd finished next a further four points away after a good second stage catch up to be one point ahead of John Coghill who had a good first stage score but dropped back in the second stage. Dennis Lavelle appeared to start each stage with a lack of concentration that caused a loss of five points on each occasion to make a bad day worse finishing another eleven points away on the day.

F Class shooters all had a difficult time getting all shots in the centre and it was not till later in the day when Jeff Eppleston rose to the challenge with a very tight group scoring a possible and taking the days honours with Geoff Willis next up one point away after dropping a point on his last shot. Graham Willis finished the day two points away next with Col Howell a further two points down for the day. Auskir Berryman finished next with a couple of steady efforts but will need to improve some of his equipment before achieving consistently better scores. Nick Webster returned after a few weeks off due to other commitments and although he improved his second stage score the absence may have accounted for his below handicap scoring.

Another stage of competition for the Treasurers Trophy was held after the W Cutler Cup on Saturday afternoon with Graeme Bright again narrowly leading Steve Williams by a few centre bulls for the day.

Next week there will be no shoot with a return on the 21st November for the final round of the W Cutler Cup at 600 yards.
