Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 11th. January 2020, 900yds. T W Willman Trophy & K Harvey Trophy.

Saturday’s slightly milder temperatures brought a few more shooters out for the first competition shoot of the new year from 900 yards competing for the T W Willman Trophy and the final stage of the K Harvey Trophy which has seen two ranges cancelled in the last few weeks due to extreme weather conditions. During the afternoon the breeze changed direction nearly as often as you looked at the flags going from north west to north east then back to westerly sometimes dropping to nothing then occasionally steady later on but never easy to keep up with, the mirage often a good indication of the changes happening.

Ron Gibson must have been refreshed after a break leading the way in Target Rifle Class and although he dropped eleven points in the tricky conditions still maintained a five point advantage over Gordon Shepherd who didn’t quite come to terms with the changing wind. Dennis Lavelle had more trouble keeping the group in the bull’s eye ring with his small calibre rifle and finished another six points down.

The F Class shooters who must keep an even tighter group on the target also had difficulty with most scoring at least one inner four during the afternoon and two shooters retiring early. Graham Willis came through strongest in his second stage to take the days honours dropping eleven points for the day and leading Geoff Willis by four points. Ben Wright finished next a further four points down ahead of Hayden Booth who tried hard to keep the club small calibre rifle in the middle with very limited success.

The T W Willman Trophy was won by Graham Willis with runner up Ron Gibson. The shortened competition for the K Harvey Trophy saw Geoff Willis the winner with Col Howell runner up.

Next Saturday we will be back to 300 yards for the first round of the Gilmour Cup which is over 300, 500 and 600 yards over the next few weeks.

                                                                                                                                                     by Geoff Willis
