Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 11th July 2015 J Sibera Trophy, 300yards

Saturday’s shoot was the last before Steve Williams and Nick Cock head off to Camp Perry, Ohio USA, to shoot with the Australian team in the World Palma Match Rifle Championships. Cock had his last hit out at the three hundred yard range in Bathurst and showed he is ready to perform at his best, shooting a very impressive 100.14.

Whilst others were unable to capitalize on the mild conditions Cock did not look like dropping a point as the bitter northerly breeze swept up range with just a hint of rear fishtail. Gordon Shepherd did best of the rest but his finishing was the lump in the pudding. A string of centre bulls eyes did not prepare him for the double inner four finish. Dennis Lavelle playing around with a new sight started slowly but quickly got into his stride with multiple centre bulls eyes before trading centre's and inners for a 47.05.

Graeme Bright was quick off the mark but then became a little distracted with the directional flag on the end of the firing mound. A mid-stage wobble saw him drop three points before finishing well for 47.04. John Coghill dropped a couple early and then followed Shepherd’s poor example dropping his last two shots for 46.04.

Ben Wright was the only F-class competitor but he showed a good deal of control to score a 58.1. His second stage was a little off the accuracy of his first but non-the-less he held it together to record his best daily score since commencing full bore target shooting. After dropping a couple of mid stage inner fours he also followed the Shepherd example losing a point at each of his final two shots to finish the day with a score of 114.3.

Brights' second stage was tighter than his first and he had the second best stage of the day, a 49.03. It was however not enough to relegate Shepherd to second place. Shepherd snatched that position by two centre bulls’ eyes after putting together a 48.04. Coghill tested the patience of the marker after repeatedly chopping the edges of the bull’s eye ring but still managed to improve on his first stage albeit without a single centre bull’s eye. Unfortunately Lavelle had to retire after a sight disaster, gifting Coghill his first COW for several weeks.

The J Sibera Trophy continues next week at 500 yards and will be followed by the 2015 Annual Dinner and Trophy Presentation at the Bathurst RSL Club
