Bathurst Rifle Club Inc. 11 November 2017, Diggers and G James Cups, 300yards

The first Club competition shoot on electronic targets took place on Saturday with the first of six ranges of the Diggers and G James cups. The weather was kind with a gentle forward fishtail breeze which did just enough to keep shooters on their toes. Following on from his giant killing exploits of last season Colin Howell left the very talented F class group in his wake. Howell shot the only possible of the day, in either grade, a 60.5 second stage possible.

Target Rifle was a bit of the same old-same old with Nick Cock, a winner at last week's Fashions Mount (Wellington) Annual Open Prize meeting, again showing a clean pair of heels to his competition. The breeze was just enough to trick him out of a double possible but he gave the centre bulls eye a beating.

Gordon Shepherd commenced well with a 49.03 but faded with a magpie and three inner fours in his second stage. Ron Gibson also looked good early but he also fell over in the second stage. Graeme Bright and Steve Williams were solid without reaching any heights.

Apart from Howell's heroics internationals Geoff Willis and Jeff Eppleston produced less than their best efforts whilst Grahame Willis worked on target administration all day. Due to the Lithgow Rifle Range being closed for two weeks Roden Lohse shot on the Bathurst range whilst new comers to target shooting Nick Webster from Bathurst and Scott Redman from Sydney also took their place on the mound with surprisingly good shoots.

The ACT Championships and Queens Prize meeting will take place next week with several members travelling to Canberra to compete. Eppleston and Willis will contest the F class event whilst Bright, Cock and Williams will shoot in Target Rifle.

On the international front Willis and Eppleston will travel to New Zealand with the Australian team in January 2018 to compete in the Trans-Tasman F Class Championships and the New Zealand National Championship and Queens Prize meeting. Williams will also compete in the NZ Nationals in target rifle.

The next local shoot is the 500 yard range of the Diggers and G James Cups, and a Championship range, on 19th November.
