Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 12th June 2021, Diggers & G James Cups 300 Yards.

Saturday saw the start of the Diggers & G James Cups at 300 yards with some great weather and the usual west to north westerly breeze occasionally catching those not watching carefully as it changed in direction. Almost half the shooters were able to shoot to their handicap or better.

Gordon Shepherd led the way in Target Rifle class holding the rifle well to lose just one point in each stage finishing one point clear of Steve Williams for the day. Charlie Bennett continues to work on mastering the art of target rifle shooting as he learns more each week.

Jeff Eppleston scored consistently to narrowly take the days honours by one super centre from Graham Willis who shot well to score the only possible of the day for his second stage. Nick Webster finished one point behind the leaders scoring ten super centres to gain third spot over Col Howell by a two super centre margin with Col also finishing strongly after some heavy duty barrel cleaning during the week. Phil Mahon scored well to finish just two points off the lead and one point ahead of Auskir Berryman who went very close to scoring his first possible if not for losing a point on his last shot. Mal Wright finished next down ahead of Geoff Willis who could not tame the vertical spread of shots during his first stage score. Visiting shooter Nick Ruston enjoyed trying long range shooting with Auskir Berryman coaching him.

Next Saturday will be the second round of the Diggers & G James Cups competition shooting from 500 yards.
