Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 13th May 2023 900 yards W & J Brown Shield

Saturday’s competition for the second round of the W & J Brown Shield from 900 yards was held in some of the best conditions for long range shooting experienced for the 900 yards distance in recent times with the flags hanging down the poles for most of the afternoon to only occasionally lift slightly from the east although most shooters did not make handicap on the day.

Graeme Bright topped the Target Rifle Class a couple of points ahead of Gordon Shepherd with Charlie Bennett finishing next after a slow start during his first stage then a great comeback with his second stage result. Ron Gibson followed next with a gap to Dennis Lavelle who struggled to keep them in the centre after his first few shots each stage. Sporter Class shooter James Clarke was a bit off his previous best at the distance.

F Class shooter Mal Wright dominated the day with a solid first stage score followed up with a great second stage possible to lead over Geoff Willis and Jeff Eppleston who were separated by just super centres with Graham Willis a couple of points away next followed by Phil Mahon. New shooter Khoby West-Kennett went on his own for the second stage finishing happy with the results ahead of Dave Butler and Ben Wright who were disappointed with their results for the day.

Next week we will shoot for the Brown Consolation Trophy from 600 yards and the following week we will shoot at 800 yards for the Secretary’s Trophy which will also count as the final round of the W & J Brown Shield.
