Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 13th June 2015 F A Wilde Trophy, 600yards

For the second week in a row Nick Cock and Geoff Willis showed off their dominance in their respective disciplines with high centre count double possibles. With the Australian Palma team heading off to the USA next month Cock took the opportunity to trial a new front sight but it made little difference to the final result. Four double possibles in his last five outings points to an inform shooter at the top of his game as he heads off to Camp Perry in Ohio, USA. Cock will first attend the NRAA National Queens Prize meeting at the Belmont range in Brisbane next week.

Willis on the other hand is gearing up for the F-class National Teams Championships in Queensland in August where he will join former club champion Jeff Eppleston as part of the NSW team. Willis also shot a double possible, his second in consecutive weeks, as the weather conditions prove very amenable to high scoring, with both he and Cock winning their respective Cock’s of the Walk.

Surprisingly there were no other possibles scored although Bright and Shepherd came close with just one bad shot halting their quest for the best. Brights’ errors were accompanied by a rush of centre bull’s eyes, shooting twelve in all, as his form slowly returns.

Shepherd shot 49.04 after dropping a point on his first business shot but fumbled his second stage shooting just 47.01. Dennis Lavelle had a mediocre shoot disappointing with double inner finishes in both stages whilst John Coghills’ run started and finished with a woeful first stage 43.01.

Coghills’ day went from bad to worse when he refused to move on a wide inner four and then proceeded to compile four inners straight before bowing to the inevitable and twisting the sight. Coghills’ misery was compounded when he finished with five centre bull’s eyes in a row.

Grahame Willis fell afoul of the last shot wobbles dropping a point in each stage to finish on 117.7, the new club F-class champion just a little off his best.

Cock took out the F A Wilde Trophy for his second consecutive trophy win.

The C R Kelly Cup will commence next week at 700 yards.
