Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 14th February 2015 J Wilde Memorial Trophy 800yards
A rain squall early in the day did not dampen the enthusiasm of shooters returning from a short break as the conditions moderated to a very light fluky breeze which did little to challenge most of the competitors. For the first time in several weeks multiple possibles were attained and scores were above or close to handicap levels.
The first stage before the rain was a little more difficult and several competitors found the light breeze challenging. Not so, Nick Cock who just missed a possible with a last shot inner four for 49.03 and Graeme Bright who despite a wobble inner four early on shot a 49.02. Steve Williams replied with 48.03 but from then on scores became ugly. Gordon Shepherd and John Coghill both collected magpie threes in their scores of 45.03 whilst Dennis Lavelle, 44.02, and Ron Gibson, 41.02, fared even worse.
As the only F-class shooter present (his fellow "effey's" are on the road contesting the Tumut Invitational) Grahame Willis started slowly and never really got into his stride finishing with a disappointing 54.1. The second stage was a different proposition for most with the exception of Bright and Coghill, Bright finishing with a magpie three and Coghill starting with one. Their scores were poor at best. Cock and Willis both excelled with high centre count possibles whilst Lavelle got in on the act with a 50.06 showing it was not only A graders who could "get the lot". Shepherd turned his fortune around with a 50.04 but Williams just missed with a late inner four. Gibson changed front rings and his fortunes with it, shooting a solid 49.03.
Cock took out the A grade Cock of the Walk, Lavelle the B grade and Willis had a walk over in F class.
Next week sees the half way mark of the Club Championship at 900 yards and the final range of the J Wilde Memorial trophy.
