Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 19th September 2020, J Wilde Memorial Trophy & K Redding Trophy 900 yards.

A mostly overcast Saturday afternoon greeted shooters for the final round of the J Wilde Memorial Trophy & the K Redding Trophy from the 900 yards firing point with a moderate breeze from the south east gusting at times and swinging to a southerly on occasions. It was a day when the seldom used east side tree line flags may have been of some assistance with F Class shooters in particular finding the conditions difficult to read.

Graeme Bright gained top spot for the day again after dropping two points during the first stage he then finished the days shooting without loss of another point to finish two points ahead of Steve Williams who dropped two points each stage although claimed eight centre bulls for the day. Gordon Shepherd couldn’t take a trick during his first stage and even with some improvement in his second stage was never going to make up for the lost points earlier.

Phil Mahon has been nudging at the top spot for the day more regularly lately and his efforts paid off on what was a sometimes tricky day at our longest and usually most difficult range to lead by one point over Graham Willis who claimed top super centre count for the day. Jeff Eppleston finished another two points away after losing too many points during his first stage to the sudden wind direction changes with Auskir Berryman several points further down although scoring very well in the conditions given his limited experience.

The J Wilde Memorial Trophy was won by Steve Williams (296.25) with Phil Mahon (295) runner up and the K Redding trophy was won by Phil Mahon (199.58) with Graeme Bright (197.5) runner up. The club again competed for the Secretaries Trophy with a third stage of shooting at 900 yards on the day.

Next event on the club calendar is planned for the 24th and 25th October, it is planned to run a competition for the NSWRA medals with one for TR and one for F Class. The program is: Saturday PM 10 shots at 800 yards followed by 10 shots at 900 yards ranges. Sunday AM start with 10 shots at each 2 x 500 yards, then 2 x 600 yards with a lunch break between ranges.
