Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 21st January 2023, 700 yards.

Competition for the I Hughes Trophy was held on Saturday 21st January from 700 yards in what mostly appeared to be great conditions for shooting but most shooters found the conditions to be more difficult than expected in the light south easterly breeze and heavy mirage.

Steve Williams returned from a short break to show he still had what it takes top scoring in Target Rifle class earning a four point lead over Graeme Bright and then Dennis Lavelle, who were separated by three centre bulls, with John Coghill following closely next up ahead of Ron Gibson. Sporter Class shooter James Clarke also found the going tough finishing below his normal scoring.

Jeff Eppleston dominated the big field of F Class shooters scoring consistently during both stages on the day to keep a three point lead over Col Howell and then Terry Howell another two points away. Dave Butler held well in the conditions to finish next ahead of Geoff Willis then Graham Willis and Nick Webster separated by three super centres with Phil Mahon leading the next group of Auskir Berryman, Luke Harris and Mal Wright.

Winner of the I Hughes Trophy is Jeff Eppleston (100) with Col Howell (100) runner up. Next event is the first round of the F A Wilde Trophy from 300 yards on 11th February.
