Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 21st February 2015 J Wilde Memorial Trophy 900yards

Saturdays shoot was bedevilled by a strong mirage which hardly let up all day. The east-north-east breeze was also a levelling factor with changes of 2-3 points quite common. Gordon Shepherd was again the standout with a first stage 50.02 possible, followed by fellow target rifle shooters Graeme Bright, Steve Williams and Dennis Lavelle who all dropped just the one point in their first foray at the mound.

Grahame Willis did best in the F-class group with a 56.1, his stage unfortunately spoiled by a first shot inner four. The second stage was entirely Nick Cock's as he grabbed the A grade Cock of the Walk with a day topping 50.04, underlining his Australian Team credentials. Somewhat surprisingly no-one was able to match that score with Bright getting just 47.04, whilst Shepherd shot 46.05 and Williams 45.04, both of the latter shooting wide outer twos and Lavelle hung on to B grade despite collapsing with a 42.01 second stage.

In F-class Grahame Willlis took the honours with the highest score of the day, a 56.3, despite dropping two points with a last shot inner four. Shepherd won the J Wilde Memorial Trophy by a large margin emphasizing his impeccable consistency of recent times. Cock took out A-grade, Lavelle B grade and Grahame Willis knocked out his more experienced competitors to win F-class.

On the travellers front Geoff Willis continued his great start to the 2015 season winning F-standard A-grade in the Tumut Invitational last weekend. On the Saturday, Willis entered the F open competition in the sweepstakes and finished third. On Sunday in his more familiar F Standard role, Willis topped the standings with a pair of 58.2's over the two stages at 1000 yards.

The W Cutler Cup commences next week in conjunction with the third 300 yard range of the Club championship. At the half way mark the Championship is wide open with no standout in any of the grades or disciplines. State teams practice at Cooyal next week will deplete the local competition somewhat with several members in, or vying for, State Team selection.
