Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 21st March 2015 K Redding Trophy 700yards

The run of difficult and testing conditions which has plagued this year's Championship continued with a vengeance. Shooters were unable to get any respite from the buffeting on the mound and the continual changes in strength and direction of the wind. Easterlies are usually mild and filter through the trees on the eastern side of the range but Saturday produced a monster of a breeze.

Steve Williams was the only contestant to show any semblance of control in the first stage with a 47.02 and even then his group was rather large. Geoff Willis with his 55.2 in F-class Standard was the best of the rest as the whole contingent succumbed to the ferocity of the wind. Gordon Shepherd and Nick Cock stayed in touch with Williams with 45 apiece, but the "effeys" were not within cooee of Willis.

The second stage was no better than the first except for "Mr. Consistency", Gordon Shepherd, who produced a brilliant 48.05 second stage as he came from behind to eclipse the field and take out the Cock of the walk by three centre bulls' eyes. Shepherd started with 4 centre bulls' eyes in a row and kept a tight rein on the wind changes throughout his stage. Geoff Willis was a little untidy with his second stage 53.1 but had the wood on his competitors.

John Coghill took out B grade when Dennis Lavelle had a first stage shocker after confusion as to where his first sighter had struck the target. Coghill almost threw the win away after dropping 4 points with a shot which just made the edge of the target, the second week in a row he has scored a "ROT" (rest of target).

The Lyndhurst Open Championship again showed the strength of the F-class group at Bathurst with Jeff Eppleston winning the first day Aggregate before succumbing to Geoff Willis in the overall two day aggregate. Grahame Willis also put up a good showing finishing third on day one and fourth overall.

Next Saturday will be the start of the two day Captains Trophy commencing at 800 yards.
