Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 26th March 2022 C R Kelly Cup 900 yards.

The final round of the C R Kelly Cup was contested last Saturday from 900 yards with a good attendance of shooters enjoying the milder temperatures due to some cloud cover. The breeze was again predominately from the south easterly direction with the usual continual changes in direction and strength and those that missed the difficult to predict changes lost points.

Steve Williams returned from a short break to show why he is leading the Target Rifle shooters in the Club Championship starting off with a possible for his first stage score to finish two points ahead of Gordon Shepherd who had a steady day dropping two points at each stage score. Graeme Bright finished a little off his normal pace another two points down but equalling the top score in centre bull count and finish one point ahead of Ron Gibson and Charlie Bennett who continues to improve each shoot while also achieving a personal best on the day.

F Class shooters appeared to have more difficulty on the day with average scores down slightly with Geoff Willis leading by one point ahead of Jeff Eppleston with Phil Mahon two points further away and four points ahead of Mal Wright who would have finished much better if not for one shot straying wide. Graham Willis battled with poor grouping of shots but not to the extent of Nick Webster or Auskir Berryman who will all be attempting to remedy their problems encountered on the day.

Winner of the C R Kelly Cup is Jeff Eppleston (297.58) with Mal Wright (297.5) runner up. Next week it’s planned to shoot at 300 yards for the first round of the J Sibera Trophy.
