Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 9th April 2016 L Williams Cup, 300yards The wind arrived on schedule just prior to the commencement of shooting. The brisk west-north westerly breeze as well as buffeting the shooters on the mound, produced just enough variation in strength to test their wind reading ability. Although several of the competitors went close to getting the ultimate only Graeme Bright who after a less than impressive first stage 46.01 finished with a high centre count 50.07 second stage. This was however, too little, too late, as both Nick Cock and Gordon Shepherd fought out the Cock of the Walk, both shooting 98’s (pair of 49’s each), Cock securing the win with a centre tally of 10 to Shepherd’s 7. Shepherd had a chance to take the COW but a last shot inner four brought about his demise. Dennis Lavelle putting last weeks’ second stage debacle down to a rear sight malfunction laid on a pair of 46.01’s to take B grade from John Coghill who is still deep in a heavy slump.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 2nd April 2016 Captains Trophy, 800yards The breeze as is usual sprung up just before the first shooters hit the mound for the first of two days of competition for the Captains Trophy. The early shooters did not fair too well as the breeze coming in from the south west changed strength quickly and constantly. Gusts up to 3 or 4 windage points above the average caught out many, with magpie threes becoming a common occurrence. Only the experienced duo of Nick Cock and Graeme Bright were able to master the changes both dropping just one point each but neither was able to make much impact on the centre bulls eye ring; Cock shooting just one centre and Bright two centre bulls eyes.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 19th March 2016 K Redding 700yard trophy, 700yards Bathurst Rifle Club is proud of its National and State representatives but the constant travelling becomes a little tiring. None of the travellers attended the local shoot on Saturday as they rested on their laurels from the Tasmanian State Championships and the Lyndhurst Annual Open Prize meeting last weekend. Nick Cock shot well in Tasmania finishing 3rd in the Queens Prize Series and 5th in the Grand Aggregate not quite up to his 2015 results but still very impressive. At the same time Geoff Willis and Ben Wright started the Lyndhurst shoot in great form both finishing day one in second position in their respective grades. However day 2 and the strong Lyndhurst contingent proved too much as Willis faded to 3rd and Wright to 5th in their aggregates.

Change to April 2016 Shooting Program

Due to a number of factors the 900 yard and the 300 yard ranges on the 9th and the 16th have been interchanged. The B2B cycle event is on the 9th of April and access to the range will be after 1300 hrs. Daylight saving ends 3rd April so light will be a factor. The Australian F-class team to Canada applicants have asked to use the 900 yard range alongside us for practice on the 16th April.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 12th March 2016 W Cutler Cup, 600yards With several members away at the Tasmanian State Championships (Queens Prize) and the Lyndhurst Annual Open Prize meeting attendance at the local shoot was very sparse. Only four competitors, one a visitor from Orange, fronted the 600 yard mound to contest the final range of the W Cutler Cup. As with last week the breeze was minimal and wafted in from the right in irregular puffs. The accompanying mirage seemed in concert with the breeze and did not have a great effect on conditions.
