Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 23th March 2019. 600yds. W. Cutler Cup & Club Championship. Last Saturday saw relatively light winds from the northwest to westerly which at times dropped in strength with the flags swinging to come more from the north as the mirage threatened to switch direction. This saw most scores lower than what was expected. Of the TR shooters Graham Bright managed to keep more where he wanted them than the others with Steve Williams and Gordon Shepherd only one point behind for the day. Dennis Lavelle suffered the most as he started the day, struggling to come to terms with the conditions finishing up a couple more points off the lead.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 16th March 2019. 500yds. W. Cutler Cup & Club Championship. Saturday saw the second round of the W Cutler Cup and a club championship shoot. The numbers of competitors at this week’s 500-yard club shoot were somewhat depleted with 4 members attending the annual Lyndhurst two-day prize shoot. The six shooters that did attend were greeted with a strong and variable easterly breeze that swirled over the tree lot lining the eastern perimeter of the range.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 9th March 2019. 300yds. W. Cutler Cup. Light winds mostly from the south west should have offered shooters the opportunity for some good scores at 300 yards for the first round of the W Cutler Cup. However the somewhat fickle movement of the flags managed to steal a point or two from all shooters with some faring worse. Steve Williams was first up of the TR shooters and despite some initial hiccups with the target antenna system kept his score up with the rest of the field. Gordon Shepherd did likewise while keeping more of his shots nearer the centre. Graeme Bright seemed to need an extra sighter before concentrating his group where he wanted it.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 2nd March 2019. 900yds. J. Wilde Memorial Trophy & K. Redding 8/900yds. Saturday saw the final round and completion of both these trophy competitions. At the start of the days shooting the flags showed little of the trouble that was to hamper shooters hoping to get in a good score at our longest range. The heat was back again for the afternoon although at times it felt a little humid while wondering if there may be some rain. The flags were seen to change from westerly to easterly and then back again but unfortunately they did not show what the accompanying mirage was doing. Shortly after competition started, one by one the shooters had their turn at trying to make sense of the quickly turning mirage that seemed to have strength beyond its appearance.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 23rd February 2019. 800yds. J. Wilde Memorial Trophy & K. Redding 8/900yds. Bathurst Rifle Club conducted the second round of the J. Wilde Memorial Trophy and the first stage of the K. Redding over 800/900 yards last Saturday. There was some relief from the hot sun but from before the start of shooting the wind was showing moderate strength mostly from the east to south easterly direction with gusting. This is not the preferred direction as the wind swirls down over the treetops on the east of the range. The drops in strength or sudden change in direction were to be hard to keep up with throughout the afternoon with only brief periods of steadiness to the condition.
