Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 11th June 2016 F A Wilde Trophy, 600yards Winter has arrived and the exposed shooting mound at the rifle range was not an ideal place to spend a Saturday afternoon. Although there were periods of bright sunshine the cold west-south westerly wind took away any benefit of the suns warmth. To add to that, intermittent cloud cover further reduced whatever heat there was in the day. The gusting breeze did enough to catch all shooters out and points were dropped on a regular basis. Ron Gibson was the first stage standout and shooting in bright sunshine he showed the way for all to follow with a good steady 48.04. Gordon Shepherd and Graeme Bright were not far behind with 47.03 a piece but John Coghill struggled for just 45.02.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 4th June 2016 F A Wilde Trophy, 500yards Whilst most shooters listened to the dire weather reports on Saturday morning and failed to front, some studied the weather radar in the morning and easterly sky in the afternoon and dared the rain to come. It did not, and the conditions for target shooting were as close to ideal as could be hoped. Cloud cover eliminated the mirage, and the breeze was almost nonexistent; in other words a great day for sighting in a rifle at 500 yards. Dennis Lavelle started in great fashion and looked to be honouring the conditions with a possible until a last shot eleven o’clock inner four put paid to that effort. Graeme Bright followed suit but he too faltered with inner fours on his third and eighth shots. John Coghill had his best start for many months and held the tightest group he could remember but fatigue set-in and he disappointed with inner fours on his last two shots.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 28th May 2016 F A Wilde Trophy, 300yards The cool weather and the biting westerly winds have arrived such that the warmer climes of northern Australia and overseas won out over a day on the mound at the Bathurst Rifle Range. With a good number of members preferring the former, numbers were well down on the first day of the F A Wilde Trophy at 300 yards. The weather although cold did not appear to hold any fears for shooters with a brisk right breeze winding around the baffles of the SSAA range. However whatever was there was impossible to define and difficult to catch with the directional flags giving little assistance.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 21st May 2016 Secretary's Trophy, 900yards Saturday signalled the last range of the Club Championship and the new Club Champions have been crowned. With Gordon Shepherd unable to attend due to family commitments the door was thrown open for Graeme Bright to snatch the title and snatch it he did in great style. With the mild weather conditions in his favour Bright had however to contend with the hazard reduction burns in the Blue Mountains producing a smoke haze adding to the insipid light later in the day. Bright fresh off a win at the Cootamundra R C open prize meeting last weekend produced two superb stage possibles to finish the season with a flourish. Bright’s 100.09 would certainly have required Shepherd to shoot up to his best had he been able to compete. The B grade championship was already decided after Dennis Lavelle outshot all of his rivals in the earlier stages of the competition.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 14th May 2016 Secretary's Trophy, 800yards Saturdays shoot was held in conditions which were as close to ideal conditions for shooting as could be imagined. With next to no breeze and just the whisper of a mirage, the sun shining brightly and the mound freshly mown, the only distraction was the abundance of small biting black ants. The ants aside, scoring was heavy and almost all shooters shot at or above their handicaps. Jeff Eppleston was the only competitor to take full advantage of the perfect day, at one stage taking the centre out of the target which required a full reconstruction. His subsequent scores of 60.7 and 60.6 emphasized his claim to represent Australia at the World F class Championships in Canada next year.
