Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 16th July 2016 J Sibera Trophy, 500yards Saturday saw the return of the prodigals with almost all of the club’s best lining up for a crack at the 500 yard range. The weather welcomed them back by putting on a perfect display of warm, calm and bright conditions. As was to be expected we saw a display of target rifle accuracy we have not seen for many weeks. Nick Cock and Steve Williams set the scene with double possibles whilst Graeme Bright, after an unsteady first stage, followed with his own 2nd stage possible. Cock nonchalantly slotted a pair of 50.05’s whilst Williams down a little on centre bull’s eyes in his first stage matched Cock’s 50.05 in his second dig Not to be out done Grahame Willis returned to his best with a high score of 118.11, easily topping the F class Cock of the Walk, and putting a sealer on the number one position with a 60.6, 2nd stage possible.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 9th July 2016 J Sibera Trophy, 300yards It was an eventful day at the Bathurst Rifle Range on Saturday with maintenance on the communication towers delaying the shoot and causing the last few competitors to battle failing light. Up until then the day was calm, relatively warm and lit up in bright sunshine. Two novice shooters and two visitors from outside the Bathurst region also attended placing added difficulty on completing the shoot in the available light. To add to the problems a large mob, upwards of 60 kangaroos, undeterred by the gunshots, invaded the range mid shoot, as they made their way from the western paddocks towards the race track.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 2nd July 2016 C R Kelly Cup, 900yards With many shooters away at the District Rifle Associations Champion of Champions, and Country versus City teams match in Sydney, local competition was again drained of much talent and the results of the final round of the C R Kelly Cup were dismal to say the least. The weather was bitterly cold and the south south-west breeze played a similar role to last weeks’ 800 yard shoot, but the result was that much worse with the extra 100 yards accentuating the errors. The light was quite dark for the entire day and the breeze rose and fell whilst changing angles constantly.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 25th June 2016 C R Kelly Cup, 800yards It was cold, it was fine, the sun shone intermittently and the west south-west breeze was light to moderate. However what breeze there was had a little bite in the tail as quick drop offs and sudden pickups confused all, even the directional flags which at times were in direct contradiction to one another. Dennis Lavelle started with a 47.03 to set the ball rolling but Gordon Shepherd was unable to settle and paid the penalty with consecutive magpie threes in his 45.01. John Coghill was very uncomfortable on the mound and scratched around like an old chook shooting magpie, inner sighters before another magpie as his first counting shot.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 18th June 2016 C R Kelly Cup, 700yards The exodus of shooters to warmer climates continued on Saturday with fishing and Northern travel the main excuses for their failure to attend. The rain which had been falling over the past two days held off for the afternoon but the dark clouds hung around all day and blotted out the mirage as well as severely affecting sighting, particularly later in the day. The light breeze which drifted in from the west-northwest fiddled around between the two hundred yard mound and the target but was more consistent between the three hundred yard mound and the firing point. No doubt the large earth mounds on the SSAA shooting range had a turbulent effect on the wind.
