Bathurst Rifle Club 29th August The B Gurdon Cup & A Pratley Shield 300 yards Saturdays shoot was blown away by the wild winds and intermittent rain to such an extent that the second stage over 500 yards had to be abandoned when a target leg shattered before it was fully raised. A second 300-yard stage was substituted but many of the competitors decided against completing the shoot opting for just the one stage. The wind coming from over the right shoulder was quite ferocious, and buffeting on the mound made it almost impossible to hold steady. The rain further added to shooters misery. Gordon Shepherd seemed to be shooting at another range as he put together a miraculous 97.10 to win the Cock of the Walk. No one else came within a bulls roar and John Coghill (88.03) was the only other competitor to break 80. Adam Parkinson did exceptionally well in only his third full bore shoot to score 78.01 winning the B grade COW ahead of Keith Redding on 78.05.

Bathurst Rifle Club 22nd August 2009 The W & J Brown Shield 900 yards Weather forecasts earlier in the week had shooters on their toes as to what to expect, and the fact that Saturdays shoot was over the 900 yard range, further added to the their apprehension. Conditions appeared quite mild in the early afternoon but something was lurking there, which nobody was able to see, or once caught, able to control. Elevation was all over the place and groups unacceptably large. Graeme Bright and Dennis Lavelle were the best of an uncertain lot with 48's whilst the next best were the trio of John Coghill, Keith Redding and Gordon Shepherd with 45's. Coghill and Redding both visited the magpie circle whilst Shepherd scored an inner four every second shot.

Bathurst Rifle Club 15th August The W & J Brown Shield 700 yards The sunny day that promised a high scoring feast turned into a battle against the elements as the gusty south westerly wind moderated and became quite fluky in the bright afternoon sunshine. As the shooters prepared to commence the days' proceedings it was clearly apparent that the target was much larger than usual. A quick rejig had the large 800-yard target dispatched and the smaller 700-yard target installed in its place. Graeme Bright started in a blaze of centre bulls-eyes, causing some to again question the size of the target, but he tapered off a little in carding a 50.05. Gordon Shepherd however fell foul of the early breeze with a wide magpie three but this was his only blemish in a 48.05, which included 4 consecutive centre bulls-eyes.

Bathurst Rifle Club 8th August The J Sibera Trophy 600 yards It's not often that the weather turns on a perfect day for shooting, or at least that is what appeared was laid on for the final round of the J Sibera Trophy. The breeze didn't seem to show any venom as the directional flags just flopped around the flagpoles. Geoff Willis showed the way with a perfect F class score of 60/60, but that was the end of the penny section as the first stage turned into a battle of attrition. Gordon Shepherd looked likely to follow Willis's lead until a blurry inner four spoilt the fun reducing him to a 49.05.

Bathurst Rifle Club 2nd August The J Sibera Trophy 500 yards Gordon Shepherd and Dennis Lavelle had a close tussle for the Cock of the Walk honours on a cold, and at times, very dull Saturday afternoon. A south westerly breeze gusting to about 5 knots and constantly swinging down range before squaring up again, was to much for all bar Shepherd who shot the only possible a 50.03 first stage. Even he was trapped by the vagaries of the breeze, which coupled with diminishing light restricted scoring in the second stage. Lavelle had the misfortune of an interloper entering the range and causing a 10-minute break during his shoot, but was able to regain his concentration, dropping just one point for a 49.03. Both Lavelle and Shepherd struck problems with light and dropped 3 points each in the second stage, Shepherd holding on for a one point win in the days COW.
