Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 1st August 2015 W & J Brown Shield, 700yards Our National representatives have left for foreign shores and our State team representatives are leaving this week to compete for NSW in the F class National Teams competition at the Belmont rifle range in Brisbane. Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 25th July 2015 J Sibera Trophy, 600yards With our national representatives out of town for several weeks and our F-class State representatives due to disappear in August, local competition will suffer a dearth of talent over the next few weeks leading up to the Bathurst 1000 range shutdown. The J Sibera Trophy has seen unusually mild weather grace the range but Saturdays’ conditions were back to the challenging, gusting westerly’s which we so often expect at this time of year. Graeme Bright continues to climb out of his recent slump and again set the level of the challenge with a first stage 49.02 and while not spotting many centres, managed to hold tight within the bulls eye ring for all bar one skinny inner four, half way through his shoot.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 18th July 2015 J Sibera Trophy, 500yards The calm after the storm produced a day of almost perfect target shooting conditions and for the first time in decades at the Bathurst Rifle Range the first three shooters on the mound came away without dropping a point. To the surprise of everyone John Coghill shot his first possible since January this year and one of his few in recent times. Coghills’ possible inspired Graeme Bright to greater heights with a high centre count 50.08 possible and then Geoff Willis tightened the group even further with a 60.5, almost blowing the X ring away. It must be said that there was almost no mirage and even less breeze for most of their shoots and it was a great day to test the capability of one’s rifle.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 11th July 2015 J Sibera Trophy, 300yards Saturday’s shoot was the last before Steve Williams and Nick Cock head off to Camp Perry, Ohio USA, to shoot with the Australian team in the World Palma Match Rifle Championships. Cock had his last hit out at the three hundred yard range in Bathurst and showed he is ready to perform at his best, shooting a very impressive 100.14. Whilst others were unable to capitalize on the mild conditions Cock did not look like dropping a point as the bitter northerly breeze swept up range with just a hint of rear fishtail. Gordon Shepherd did best of the rest but his finishing was the lump in the pudding.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 4th July 2015 C R Kelly Cup, 900yards Nine hundred yards is a difficult proposition at the best of times and Bathurst tends to be one of the more tricky ranges. Saturday was no less difficult with a light to moderate south westerly breeze swinging full on into shooters faces and then returning to a full westerly aspect. A mirage added to shooters dilemma. The first stage produced a couple of good scores with Dennis Lavelle again showing up all of his higher graded competitors with a 49.03, missing his possible on a last shot inner four. Graeme Bright stumbled with a late inner but matched Lavelle’s score. Gordon Shepherd (the centre bulls eye king) shot a 48.04 while John Coghill included a magpie three in his 47.01 and Nick Cock took one too many sighters and came in with a trailing score of 46.04.
