Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 27th June 2015 C R Kelly Cup, 800yards With our National and International team members still travelling and likely to be for the next two months local competition is struggling to maintain numbers for the Saturday afternoon shoots. On another near perfect day for target shooting scores were good, but not to the point of perfection, as only one possible, that a 50.01 by Gordon Shepherd, graced the scorecards. A light westerly breeze, flicking down range at times, was accompanied by a mirage which was generated by the bright sunshine.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 20th June 2015 C R Kelly Cup, 700yards Three of the clubs’ top shooters were in Brisbane competing in the National Rifle Association of Australia National Championships and although the weather conditions on the home range were fairly benign those remaining in Bathurst couldn’t approach the level of excellence displayed over recent weeks. An almost calm day was bedeviled by a mirage which was very difficult to read. Occasionally swapping sides but never steady the predominantly right mirage caused a variety of errors from the ubiquitous magpie three to strings of inner fours. Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 13th June 2015 F A Wilde Trophy, 600yards For the second week in a row Nick Cock and Geoff Willis showed off their dominance in their respective disciplines with high centre count double possibles. With the Australian Palma team heading off to the USA next month Cock took the opportunity to trial a new front sight but it made little difference to the final result. Four double possibles in his last five outings points to an inform shooter at the top of his game as he heads off to Camp Perry in Ohio, USA. Cock will first attend the NRAA National Queens Prize meeting at the Belmont range in Brisbane next week.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 6th June 2015 F A Wilde Trophy, 500yards Geoff Willis and Nick Cock took advantage of a perfect winters’ day to post big double possibles and completely dominate all other competitors. Cock who is preparing for a stint with the Australian Palma Rifle Team at Camp Perry in the USA later this year and Willis who has been chosen to represent NSW in the National F-class teams Championship in Brisbane later this year both showed why they have achieved such honours. With the weather producing the same mild shooting conditions which are usually experienced during late autumn, scores were always going to be at the high end of the scale. Cock peeled off centre bull’s eyes with nonchalant regularity and collected six super bulls in his 13 centre bull’s eye romp, taking out the Cock of the Walk quite comfortably.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 30th May 2015 F A Wilde Trophy, 300yards With the Club Championship now complete, weather conditions have moderated and target shooting has become a lot easier, at least that is the way it seemed to shooters on Saturday at the 300 yard mound of the F A Wilde Trophy competition. A light south westerly breeze drifted down from the hills behind the range and wandered around the SSAA butts before passing over the target. There did not appear to be enough variation in the conditions to alter sight settings although some contestants swore that they were the subject of some subtle wind shifts.
