Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 24th January 2015 J Wilde Memorial Trophy 700yards The weather threatened all afternoon but held off long enough to allow a small contingent of shooters to complete the second of four 700 yard championship shoots. Bathurst shooters are getting a reputation as good travellers and the Festival of Sydney competition at Malabar Rifle range in Sydney, attracted strong club representation. This of course left the local shoot short of numbers, but not enthusiasm. The heavy rain which fell at the start of the shoot abated and the day settled into one of fine overcast skies with good even light, and just a little breeze. In other words almost perfect shooting conditions. One would not have thought so after the first stage produced some very average scores. Gordon Shepherd was the only competitor to pass muster, his 48.04 still a bit disappointing.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 17th January 2015 R L Gilmour Cup 600yards Saturday was one of the most difficult days of competitive shooting experienced at the Bathurst rifle range in a long time. A strong gusting west-south westerly wind, swept the range without letup and wild bursts of wind buffeted shooters on the mound, making it almost impossible to achieve a decent score. In fact accuracy was more luck than ability. The frequency and strength of the gusts were camouflaged by regular, ill defined direction changes. Gordon Shepherd was the only target rifle shooter to break 90% accuracy and even he succumbed to the magpie terror. With scores of 44.02 and a day topping 47.02, Shepherd was the standout as he continues his excellent recent form, taking out his fifth Cock of the Walk in ten shoots this year.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 10th January 2015 R L Gilmour Cup 300yards The second of four rounds of the Club Championship commenced under heavy skies with a moderate rear fishtail breeze, the rain holding off until the last of the competitors hit the mound. The 300 yard range, a favorite of the scoped brigade produced the expected domination from the F-class contingent. Jeff Eppleston who always shows his best at 300 yard Club Championship shoots, was again the pacesetter with a Cock of the Walk winning performance which included a 60.2 final stage, the only possible of the day from either discipline. But the biggest surprise of the day was Lawry Sim who has had little competitive shooting in recent months.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 3rd January 2015 R L Gilmour Cup 500yards F class shooters outnumbered the target rifle group by two to one and they really came into their own as the weather moderated from conditions experienced over recent weeks, and the distance over which the shoot was held came back to the shorter distance of 500 yards. Apart from Dennis Lavelle who shot an amazing 50.02 first stage using his .223 rifle with a light 69 grain projectile the target rifle group was totally outshone by their scoped competitors. The weather was extremely hot and the breeze came from almost directly behind the shooters which in turn muddled the mirage which seemed directionless, and just seemed to boil most of the time.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 27th December 2014 N Rutherford Memorial Trophy 800yards Saturdays' shoot was the culmination of six weeks of the K Harvey trophy in very difficult shooting conditions and the one day N Rutherford Memorial trophy. After last weeks' debacle at 900 yards both the weather and the distance, back to 800 yards, conspired to produce a much more benign shooting environment. Whilst not everyone made the most of the day there were some welcome returns to form. Ron Gibson was the standout with his first possible for many a long day. Gibson's form has been on the up since he installed a new barrel in his rifle several weeks ago and although he was unable to match his first stage possible, a 46.04 was sufficient to top all comers bar A-grader Graeme Bright.
