Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 6th February 2021, F A Wilde Trophy 300 yards. The start of the F A Wilde Trophy on Saturday from 300 yards went ahead after a fortunate break in the weather allowed just enough time to set up targets and erect gazebos over the shooting area. The mostly light rain throughout the afternoon caused problems for some shooters with the front sight fogging or getting wet but most seemed to handle the conditions well enough. The wet flags not responding effectively in the north easterly breeze may have been the most difficult aspect in achieving a top score.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 30th January 2021, Secretary’s Trophy 900 yards. Saturday saw a return to the 900 yards line for another round of the club championship and the second round of the Secretary’s Trophy competition following the 800 yards round the previous week. A moderate and mostly north westerly breeze continually changed direction while dropping in strength to make for tough competition at the clubs longest range. Graeme Bright continues to excel with consistent shooting taking top spot in Target Rifle class with Steve Williams three points behind although claiming ten centre bulls on the day. Gordon Shepherd followed another two points down and one point in front of Dennis Lavelle with John Coghill next after continuing his good form somewhat in the first stage but dropping out of the leading group in his second stage.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 16th January 2021, I Hughes & R Northcott trophy 700 yards. The I Hughes & R Northcott Trophies competition was held at 700 yards on Saturday afternoon in some of the most challenging shooting conditions with a mostly strong west to south westerly breeze that varied rapidly and continually in strength and direction throughout the competition. With the sad passing of long time club member, Life Member and a great club supporter Roger Northcott during the week it was fitting that competition for the trophy with his name be competed for in the same week and I am sure he would have been amused watching from his vehicle as he did in the later years, as the shooters struggled without success to gain a reasonable score in the difficult conditions competing for his trophy.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 9nd January 2021, L Williams Cup 600 yards. The final round of the L Williams Cup was completed on Saturday afternoon at 600 yards with a light east to south easterly breeze that appeared to drop off to nothing at times but often it was very hard to read and keep up with the small changes that appeared to effect the F Class shooters slightly more than the Target Rifle shooters. Graeme Bright again kept the pressure up to take the day with a one point advantage over John Coghill who has been more consistent lately. Steve Williams finished another point behind after a slow start although he tried to make amends with the day’s top stage score for his second stage to pull five points ahead of Gordon Shepherd who crashed badly at the end of his second stage.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 2nd January 2021, L Williams Cup 500 yards. Saturday saw the start of the L Williams Cup which was planned to start from 300 yards then move back to 500 yards for the second round but due to threatening wet weather and a storm that came through just prior to starting competition it was decided to start at 500 yards as it was also a Club Championship round and with weather permitting then shoot the 300 yards round. After completion of the 500 yards shoot it was then decided to shoot the first round of the L Williams Cup at 500 yards also, due to the time and weather constraints. A very slight and predominately south easterly breeze gave some mostly improved shooting conditions to what has been encountered recently allowing most shooters to score very near or above their handicap.
