Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 19th March 2016 K Redding 700yard trophy, 700yards Bathurst Rifle Club is proud of its National and State representatives but the constant travelling becomes a little tiring. None of the travellers attended the local shoot on Saturday as they rested on their laurels from the Tasmanian State Championships and the Lyndhurst Annual Open Prize meeting last weekend. Nick Cock shot well in Tasmania finishing 3rd in the Queens Prize Series and 5th in the Grand Aggregate not quite up to his 2015 results but still very impressive. At the same time Geoff Willis and Ben Wright started the Lyndhurst shoot in great form both finishing day one in second position in their respective grades. However day 2 and the strong Lyndhurst contingent proved too much as Willis faded to 3rd and Wright to 5th in their aggregates.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 12th March 2016 W Cutler Cup, 600yards With several members away at the Tasmanian State Championships (Queens Prize) and the Lyndhurst Annual Open Prize meeting attendance at the local shoot was very sparse. Only four competitors, one a visitor from Orange, fronted the 600 yard mound to contest the final range of the W Cutler Cup. As with last week the breeze was minimal and wafted in from the right in irregular puffs. The accompanying mirage seemed in concert with the breeze and did not have a great effect on conditions.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 5th March 2016 W Cutler Cup, 500yards Gordon Shepherd put in a brilliant performance on Saturday with a near perfect 99.11/100, spoiling his double possible with a 3 o’clock pimple on his last shot of the first stage. He later claimed that he had the best shooting conditions that he has encountered for many years. Whilst this may be so others found the light breeze and turbulent mirage a lot less than perfect with the directional flags at odds with the mirage and what little breeze there was rapidly puffing up and down, and at times developing into mini willy-willies.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 27th February 2016 W Cutler Cup, Championship and QVM, 300yards Shooters saw the Bathurst Rifle Range from a different perspective on Saturday as a predominantly easterly breeze filtered through the stand of trees on the left of the range and developed into a forward fishtail with a mirage which swapped sides throughout the day. Although conditions changed there were not the large variations experienced in recent weeks leading to some very good performances across the afternoon. The order of merit was restored with Australian Team member Nick Cock, warming up for the imminent Tasmanian State Championships, the best on the day. A 50.06 first stage possible overwhelmed most of his competitors apart from Steve Williams who scored a 49.03.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc The J Wilde Memorial and K Redding 8/900 yard Trophies 800yards 13th February 2016 800yards13th February 2016 The longer ranges at the Bathurst Rifle Range over the summer months become quite problematic as the hot weather produces some of the most difficult shooting conditions with fishtail breezes, strong mirages and oppressive heat. Whilst not at their worst, conditions on the 800 yard mound were nonetheless quite tricky. Competitors had to contend with a mirage which swapped sides and changed intensity in concert with the fickle breeze. Most shooters coped fairly well and there were some good steady performances, the best of them being Gordon Shepherd’s pair of 49’s with 9 centre bulls eyes, which won him the days Cock of the Walk. Graeme Bright challenged but fell short at the final hurdle whilst Nick Cock was behind the eight ball after an indifferent 47.05 first stage.
