Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 19th December 2015 T W Willman Trophy, 900yards
Saturday again saw a repeat of the wind/miragephenomena which has been dogging shooters at the Bathurst Rifle Range over the past several weeks. However a further obstacle was thrown at competitors with the day hosting the long 900 yard range.
The biggest problem for shooters was the oppressive heat which sapped both strength and energy almost to the point of exhaustion. Except for Gordon Shepherd who had an extraordinary turnaround, most scores deteriorated as the day wore on. Shepherd turned a 43.01 first stage into a day topping 48.05 second stage snatching the Cock of the Walk from a group of amazed competitors.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 12th December 2015 W Northcott Memorial Trophy, 700yards
Little more can be said of the weather conditions being experienced on the Bathurst Rifle Range at the moment except to say that any score is a good score. The wind and mirage were worse than anything seen so far this season and the 700 yard distance exacerbated shooters pain.
Starting with a strong blustery south westerly wind and a heavy mirage which completely obliterated the scoring rings, early shooters were just pawns in the game. Graham Willis set the tone with a 51.1 which was one of the better scores of the first stage, Jeff Eppleston shot a 50.1, Luke Harris a 42.0 and George Lau using a totally inadequate .243 calibre hunting rifle a 34.0.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 5th December 2015 Diggers & G James Cups, 600yards
Weather conditions on the Bathurst Rifle Range at this time of the year generally combine to thwart shooters ambitions of a good start to the Championship year. Saturday was no exception as a forward fishtail of even greater strength than last weeks’ monster, and a mirage which bore no relation to the direction of the breeze, combined to make this weeks’ shoot a lottery.
John Coghill had the better of the first stage managing to stay out of the magpie ring for a 46.03. Dennis Lavelle couldn’t avoid a magpie but he did keep his group relatively small in his 46.0, whilst Gordon Shepherd strung together two sets of triple inners in his 44.01.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 28th November 2015 Diggers & G James Cups, 500yards
Saturdays round of the Diggers and G James Cups was played out in weather conditions which were both unpredictable and very difficult to read. A southerly breeze swung from side to side inducing a forward fishtail effect and the bright sunshine and humidity produced a savage mirage which also changed sides at will.
As a consequence scoring became a bit of a lottery with the projectile jumping the bulls eye as if in a game of jump the puddle. Frustrations grew as small windage corrections made large moves on the target. Consecutive inner fours either side of the bull’s eye were a regular occurrence.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 21st November 2015 Diggers & G James Cups, 300yards
It has been a very eventful few weeks for the Bathurst Rifle and its members with State Championship and Territory Championship wins to Geoff Willis, a washout and a cancellation in local competition, and finally a completed 300 yard round of the Diggers and G James Cups.
2015 has been an outstanding year for Willis and the last two months has seen him win the NSW State Championship convincingly, taking out the lead up event the McIntosh, the F-class Standard Queens series and the Grand Aggregate. Last week Willis visited Canberra and added the ACT Championship to his list of achievements with a win in the F-class Standard Queens series and the Grand Aggregate.
