Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 7th November 2015 Diggers & G James Cups, 500yards The 2016 season got off to a soggy start last week when the first 300 yard round of the Diggers and G James Cups was washed out and a healthy rollout of competitors were left with at best one stage of shooting to show for their attendance. The second round on Saturday was less well attended but at least the full stage at 500 yards was completed. The weather was warm, sunny and a little breezy. What looked at first to be a strong gusty breeze turned out in fact to be relatively gentle with some subtle changes but few terrors. Gordon Shepherd started with a large group inside the bull’s eye ring, showing perhaps the effect of the long break, and two inner fours were the result of the big group.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc. 29th August 2015, Gurdon Cup and Pratley Shield The second round of both the Gurdon Cup and Pratley Shield was contested in cold blustery conditions from the 600 and 700yd mounds last Saturday. The combination of the biting wind, angling from the south west, and regular cases of human error meant that not one contestant escaped unscathed. In Target Rifle A Grade, Graeme Bright set the early pace with 48.5, while Gordon Shepherd struck elevation problems late in his shoot to record three consecutive inners and a score of 47.1. Nick Cock , returning from the world championships in the U.S.A. , decided to try a different sighting arrangement and immediately struck trouble finding the range. He recorded a well below average score of 43.2.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc. 22nd August 2015 B Gurdon Cup and A Pratley Shield, 3/500yards The return of the NSW State representatives did not turn out as expected as Ben Wright, a tyro F-class shooter, upstaged them with a great performance in very blustery conditions. The north to north westerly winds gusted, and changed direction in a 30 degree arc, and while the light was even, the conditions were far from ideal. Wright seemed to have, if not mastered the conditions, at least have a much better handle on the state of the wind than everyone else on the range. A pair of 56.2’s was a top result and far better than his competitors.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc. 15th August 2015 W & J Brown Shield, 900yards Bathurst’s travelers are excelling in their respective endeavours both internationally and interstate with Central West shooters achieving both individual and team success in the USA and Queensland. The NSW F-class team which includes Bathurst’s Geoff Willis and Jeff Eppleston won the F-class standard section of the National teams competition in Brisbane and both shooters are joined by Graeme Bright in competing for the QRA Queens prize at the time of going to press. On the local front the 900 yard mound was the scene of an impressive display which would have done our representative shooters proud. Ron Gibson who has done little shooting this year due to extensive world travels completely dominated the day with a 99.05 when the best of the rest could manage just 93.05 and the rest were somewhat behind that.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 8th August 2015 W & J Brown Shield, 800yards The small contingent of Bathurst Rifle club shooters is about to get even smaller with Graeme Bright heading off to Queensland to contest the Queensland Rifle Association Queens series at the Belmont rifle range next week. The Queens will be held after the F-class Nationals where fellow club members Jeff Eppleston and Geoff Willis are representing NSW. The Club however welcomed back a long time member Ian Cunningham who last shot on the range in 1992. Cunningham started with the club in the 1960’s and shot sporadically through to his retirement from the mound due to family and work commitments. Along with newcomer Ron Hartley, Cunningham tried out on target rifle with a supporting bipod and the full F-class discipline.
