Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 23rd May 2015 Secretary's Trophy, 900yards Saturday marked the closure of competition for the 2015 Club Champion trophies. Steve Williams continued to ink his name on the Club Champion honour roll, his eighth win in a row and his twentieth in total. Gordon Shepherd harried him to the very last shot with a fine 98.12 to fall just 5 points short of a major upset. The big surprise of the season was Grahame Willis who came from nowhere to snatch the F-class trophy which has had only one name, Jeff Eppleston, engraved on it since its inception in 2007. Eppleston carried some very average scores from early in the year and Willis climbed over the top with excellent late season form.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 16th May 2015 Secretary's Trophy, 800yards Saturdays shoot was conducted in almost perfect weather conditions for both comfort and long range target rifle shooting. With a light almost imperceptible easterly breeze and bright sunshine, which induced a moderate mirage, conditions were set up for high scoring. Right from the first stages, possibles and near possibles rolled off the mound. Nick Cock started the day with an almost perfect 50.09 and set the tone for the rest of the competition. Steve Williams, Gordon Shepherd and Graeme Bright all dropped a point for 49’s, in Shepherd’s case, his error was a last shot inner four.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 9th May 2015 I Hughes and J Porter Trophies, 700yards The 700 yard range, the penultimate stage of the Club Championship, had a profound effect on the Championship with the Club Champion Trophy being decided a week ahead of the final range. Steve Williams with a masterful 99.05 locked the door on a game Gordon Shepherd who has turned the clock back this year and threatened to return to the top, 25 years after his last Club Championship triumph. This is Williams 20th win in the ultimate trophy. Dennis Lavelle won his 4th B grade Champions Cup in just 13 years of full bore target rifle shooting after John Coghills’ challenge fizzled out in a puff of wind.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 2nd May 2015 L Williams Cup, 600yards Light misty rain accompanied by little or no breeze and a dull even light was made to order for the last 600 yard range of the Club Championship. Very trying conditions and a washout earlier in the year meant current scores were well below par and the chance to put a telling score on the board was not wasted. Almost 50% of the competitors bettered their handicaps and those that didn’t, went very close. Graeme Bright was the standout with the days’ only double possible, a pleasing turn-around after a long form slump. Brights’ 100.05 was light-on for centre bull’s eyes, but sufficient to put Championship contenders Gordon Shepherd and Steve Williams in their place.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 25th April 2015 L Williams Cup, 500yards In the spirit of the now defunct diggers day shoot Geoff Willis brought out his old .303 rifle and put a stage on the target. His score of 30/50 was about par with scores of that post WW2 period. That interlude aside the days’ competition was held in fine but threatening conditions with a north to northwest breeze sweeping the range. There was just sufficient angle on the breeze to accentuate the changes in wind strength and as a result there was not a single possible scored. Gordon Shepherd and Graeme Bright were head to head all day with no more than a centre bulls’ eye between them.
