Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 13th May 2023 900 yards W & J Brown Shield Saturday’s competition for the second round of the W & J Brown Shield from 900 yards was held in some of the best conditions for long range shooting experienced for the 900 yards distance in recent times with the flags hanging down the poles for most of the afternoon to only occasionally lift slightly from the east although most shooters did not make handicap on the day. Graeme Bright topped the Target Rifle Class a couple of points ahead of Gordon Shepherd with Charlie Bennett finishing next after a slow start during his first stage then a great comeback with his second stage result. Ron Gibson followed next with a gap to Dennis Lavelle who struggled to keep them in the centre after his first few shots each stage. Sporter Class shooter James Clarke was a bit off his previous best at the distance.

Saturday’s final round of the J Sibera Trophy competition from 600 yards was held in similar conditions to the previous week although the south easterly breeze proved more difficult at times for most shooters. Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 15th April 2023 J Sibera Trophy 500 yards. Saturdays second round of the J Sibera Trophy from 500 yards saw a good attendance with most shooters scoring to handicap or very close with the mostly steady north westerly breeze occasionally giving slight angle changes to catch some shooters out. Shooting in Target Rifle class Graeme Bright enjoyed the conditions dropping just the one point early on to claim top spot ahead of Steve Williams and Gordon Shepherd who were separated by a close countback on the days scores. John Coghill and Dennis Lavelle followed one point away also scoring well for the day separated only on a countback with Charlie Bennett returning after a break to finish just a few points behind. Shooting in Sporter Class James Clarke found some competition for the day with Darren Johnson just three centre bulls away trying out his new rifle.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 25th March 2023 500 yards Practice. Saturdays start to the J Sibera Trophy at 300 yards was postponed until next Saturday 1st April due to maintenance repair work on the communication towers on Mt Panorama which only allowed a late start after 3pm so a 500 yards practice was agreed to. The south westerly winds had some strength occasionally but also gave periods where top scores were possible and while dark clouds threatened during the afternoon, fortunately the first drops did not fall till the last shooter had finished.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 18th March 2023 C R Kelly Cup 900 yards. Saturday’s competition for the second round of the C R Kelly Cup from 900 yards saw reduced numbers in the hot weather along with some members competing at the Lyndhurst Rifle Club Prize Meeting. The strong and variable north westerly breeze caused more problems than the heat with just two shooters gaining a reasonable score on the day. Although scores were below handicap for most shooters, John Coghill top scored Target Rifle class with Ron Gibson several points away next. James Clarke shooting in Sporter class scored well managing to achieve his best result for the 900 yards distance to date.
