Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 23 August 2014 W & J Brown Shield, 3/500yards With the 2014 season winding down before the motor race shutdown the dual B Gurdon Cup and A Pratley Shield Trophies, the last of the multi week competitions, commenced over the split ranges of 300 and 500 yards. The weather, with rain forecast, was surprisingly warm and the wind was almost nonexistent. A slight left mirage was all that confronted competitors as they lined up on the 300 yard mound. The target rifle group seemed to find just enough trouble to put paid to the thoughts of a clear round. Graeme Bright set the standard with a 48.04. His second stage however was shrouded in controversy, as his last shot an inner four, could have been an extra shot due to the scorers missing a centre bulls eye. His 49.06 stood however, giving him a 97.10 and the A grade Cock of the Walk.

The Bathurst Rifle Club 2012 Annual Open Prize Meeting The Bathurst RSL Club sponsored 2012 Annual Open Prize meeting was held under bright sunny skies with an easterly breeze setting up the range for a day of high scoring. Bathurst Rifle Club 17th April 2010 The Captains Trophy 900 yards After the first two 900 yard rounds of the Club Championship were bedeviled by highly unfavourable weather conditions, Saturdays perfect weather offered shooters a rare chance to dominate the longest of the ranges at the home of the Bathurst Rifle Club. Whilst there were some good stories out of the day's competition, with most of the previous scores being consigned to the cutting table, not all were happy with the end result. Gordon Shepherd using the "new improved" .308 ammunition plied his wares well with a pair of 49's with 9 central bulls-eyes to take out the days Cock of the Walk. Shepherds disappointment at not achieving a possible was further magnified when Dennis Lavelle using his smaller .223 calibre was able to achieve that feat at his second visit to the mound. A 47.05 first stage however, prevented Lavelle from toppling Shepherd from the top position. Lavelle appears to have finally overcome his ammunition problems and is looking forward to mounting a serious challenge to his bigger bore competitors.

Bathurst Rifle Club 23rd January 2010 The Gilmour Cup Final. 600 yards The following two paragraphs best describe the days' events at the Bathurst rifle range on Saturday. "The weather was particularly unfavourable for rifle shooting, a strong variable wind with frequent violent gusts and clouds of dust prevailed during the whole of the day". (From Bathurst Rifle Shooting, The Sydney Morning Herald, Monday 20th January 1873) "Though the weather was fine, an unfavourable wind blew across the range and this will probably account for the poorness of the shooting". (Bathurst Rifle Shooting, The Sydney Morning Herald, Tuesday 2nd January 1883). Nothing changed in that decade and nothing much appears to have changed in the intervening 127 years. The wind blew (this time, however, without the dust) and the scores told the miserable tale.

Bathurst Rifle Club 16th January 2010 The Gilmour Cup 500 yards The second round of the Gilmour Cup produced some exciting performances; none better than Tim Robinson who has been shooting full bore for less than one year. Robinson shot his first possible, a 50.05, and followed up with a 49.03 to push seasoned A grader, and former Club Champion Graeme Bright, right to the final shot. Robinson took out the handicap honours and the B grade COW and it appears that the new barrel fitted to the club rifle is finally allowing him to show his true potential. Bright had to pull out a big 50.07 to eclipse Robinson as the pair scooted away from the other contenders.
