Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 18th. January 2020, 300yds. Gilmour Cup. Saturday’s 300 yard shoot was the start of the Gilmour Cup competition over 300, 500 and 600 yards. With two electronic targets in use for the afternoon the good roll up of shooters enjoying the milder temperatures was no problem. The east to south easterly breeze appeared to offer good conditions although there was little mirage evident to help read the changes and some shooters discovered the flags did not show what the conditions were offering at all times with a few unexplained wind shots. Graeme Bright led the way for the Target Rifle shooters dropping only two points in each stage to be four points down for the day with a two points lead over Steve Williams and Gordon Shepherd with Williams having a two centre bull advantage.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 11th. January 2020, 900yds. T W Willman Trophy & K Harvey Trophy. Saturday’s slightly milder temperatures brought a few more shooters out for the first competition shoot of the new year from 900 yards competing for the T W Willman Trophy and the final stage of the K Harvey Trophy which has seen two ranges cancelled in the last few weeks due to extreme weather conditions. During the afternoon the breeze changed direction nearly as often as you looked at the flags going from north west to north east then back to westerly sometimes dropping to nothing then occasionally steady later on but never easy to keep up with, the mirage often a good indication of the changes happening.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 28th December 2019. 700yds. K Harvey Trophy & W Northcott Memorial Trophy. After extreme conditions led to the cancelled previous weeks shoot some adventurous shooters returned to the 700 yard line on Saturday. The heat was severe but the wind had eased considerably in strength although still very difficult to manage with subtle and unpredictable changes having elevation and wind effect on most shooters scores. Most Target Rifle shooters had a similar level of difficulty during the afternoon but Steve Williams broke the trend to finish three points ahead of Graham Bright and Gordon Shepherd who both lost a total ten points each for the day with Bright having a one centre bull advantage. Dennis Lavelle had a poor start to the afternoons shooting to finish another four points behind although he managed the highest centre bull count.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 14th December 2019. 500yds. Diggers & G James Cups. The fifth round of the Diggers & G James Cups was contested last Saturday in warm sunny weather with a moderately strong west to south westerly breeze that continually and often abruptly changed direction and strength during the afternoon to make a very difficult task of scoring well. Shooting in Target Rifle Class Graeme Bright again scored well during the difficult conditions of the afternoon dropping only two points during each stage for the day and scoring five centre bulls while Hayden Booth lost another eight points as he continues to develop his skills with the rifle.
