Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 20th December 2014 T W Willman Trophy the 900yards There were not many happy shooters after the first stage of the club Championship finished at the 900 yard mound on Saturday. Of the first four ranges, there has been one washout and three days of difficult weather conditions. Saturday was perhaps the most difficult so far with a mirage which was impossible to read, changing sides constantly and at times with great rapidity. Coupled with the fact that the shoot was over 900 yards, the longest range at Bathurst, there were few winners as scores plunged to the depths and the centre of the target became a no go zone for most shooters.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 13th December 2014 W Northcott Memorial Trophy the 700yards. There was little to get excited about when shooters took to the mound on Saturday as the weather appeared to be fairly benign with just a light breeze from the east. However appearances were quite deceptive as the breeze swung in an arc of about 45 degrees from the north east to the east and a very strong mirage drew a haze over the target. It soon became apparent that shooters were not going to have an easy time keeping a consistent group inside the bullseye ring. In fact it was difficult keeping their shots inside the inner four ring with magpie threes' coming regularly for a total of 16 scored in the days shoot. One of the few to avoid the magpie trap was Steve Williams who shot 95.05 to take out the Cock of the Walk in a canter.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 6th December 2014 the Diggers and George James Cups 600yards For the second week in a row rain interfered with the shoot and as a result the day was declared incomplete as four shooters failed to start their second stages. The same storm front that disrupted the motor race in Sydney had hit Bathurst two hours earlier with strong westerly winds and driving rain forcing shooters to run for cover. (See attached photos)

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 29th November 2014 the Diggers and George James Cups 500yards Saturdays shoot began with a few spits of rain and increased to a steady downpour for most of the afternoon, drenching all who unwisely chose to brave the elements. The rain which came in from the southwest gradually moved across the range and then turned around and came back from the north east to complete the soaking. Vision of the target was almost blotted out at times and anyone thinking that the rain was going to be a short lived event was greatly disappointed. It was not until the last two stages were commenced that the rain stopped and the sun emerged. By that time however all the gear was wet and strange happenings occurred.

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc 22nd November 2014 the Diggers and George James Cups 300yards The first of the 2014-15 Championship ranges and the beginning of the second round of the Diggers and G James Cups was contested on Saturday over 300 yards. The conditions were every bit as difficult as those encountered in Canberra by those returning from the ACT Queens Prize competition held last weekend. Local shooters performed well in Canberra without reaching their previous highs as the Willis brothers, Geoff and Grahame, and Jeff Eppleston all won various ranges and/or day aggregates but missed the top prizes. Saturdays' strong gusting north westerly wind accompanied by oppressive heat made life difficult for all shooters back on the Bathurst range. The Bathurst Rifle Club is pleased to welcome Nick Cock who has transferred from Lithgow RC to get more experience in difficult conditions and long ranges before he joins the Australian Rifle Team for the Palma matches in the USA next year.
